The research phase or pre-production and design is usually done on computer by using special software. Each piece of the aircraft is designed with its distinctive features and possibly a 3D modelling program. In addition to software, it is increasingly common to design miniature models in order to detect possible defects. Engineers finally proceed to a trial phase, in wind tunnel or on computer, before validating the element.
